art quilt vs modern quilt

the quilt police are gonna fine me.  Another vignette.  But I fear its more an art quilt.  I have no self control.  But, alas I like it.  A tangle of fabric.  My next one :  a tangle of thread

These 2 are for the modern quilt guild group I joined here in Missoula, Montana.  Its nice.  Did not have the opportunity for this in rural Texas.

My Maggie quilt is finished

Turning in a quilt for competition is so different than finishing one for a friend.  Fabric and stitch have a life of its own.  It shrinks, stretches and moves.  The one secret I picked-up in classes is to soak the little sucker.  Stretch it and pull it until it is straight.  So now she lays under 10 rocks (yup rocks from a construction site :part of the Rocky Mountains) stretched and wet.  Hope she comes out straight tomorrow.  It turns cold again on Sunday.  If she's still wet on Sunday My Maggie quilt will have frost and icicles on her.  Deadlines!

moda blockheads

I jonied the facebook group moda blockhead.  Patterns are free and great inspiration.  Holy crap.  Precision piecing.  6" blocks.  You better be precise:  all mistakes are multiplied. and multiplied.

It looks like i will get 2 quilts out of these exercises.  One is for practice.  The other is for the quilt.

Is it a sin ....if I put the practice yucky blocks together for a quilt.??

Moda Blockhead

If you haven't checked it out yet on facebook.  Go to Moda Blockheads.  By the time I get caught up w/ all 30 blocks:  I will know color and precision piecing.  Look for files.  You will find directions for all 30 blocks.  Block one took less that 90 minutes:  Holy Moly!!!  my lights and mediums were the same tone.  Block was a bust.  And its only 6.5 in.  So, I ended up w/ a wobbly block.  Lesson learned.  Gonna have to go slow.

Welcome Back

My sewing room set-up,  All animals are adjusted.  Cats are happy.  Maggie has her winter coat and we are 3 houses from a park for Lily and me playing tennis.  Just spent a week at Yellowstone.  Photos to follow.  Joined a textile artist group here.  Wonderful group of ladies.  Learned metal and beading techniques.
